Overview
Sleeping Dogs Lie is the long-awaited and controversial sequel
to Sylvester Young’s acclaimed 1999 crime-thriller ‘What Goes around’. In
the wake of the Twin Tower attacks, IRA fugitive Danny Maguire and his
friend Robbie Walker leave New York after Danny kills a leading Irish
republican. They eventually find themselves in small-town Georgia; however,
a few months after their arrival, Danny disappears and Robbie is captured
by an FBI agent called Mitch. He claims the IRA man is collaborating with
Colombian Farc guerrillas to carry out an atrocity on American soil and
Robbie is offered a deal: freedom, money and a future with his son in
return for the capture of his best friend. Initially, it appears that
Robbie has a straightforward, if agonising, decision to make but, as he
soon finds out, in this part of post-9/11 America, nothing is quite as it
seems.
